No Descent for James Meek

James Meek's previous book, The People's Act of Love, garnered praise from all around the world, which makes his next book the most hotly anticipated fiction title of this spring. Though he draws on his own experiences as a war correspondent, Meek's We Are Now Beginning Our Descent is indeed fiction, though it takes place in a world wholly familiar.

The events of 9/11 have left novelist and journalist Adam Kellas scarred and disconnected. Searching for anything that will move him, he heads to Afghanistan as a correspondent where he soon finds Astrid, another broken soul struggling to put together the pieces of a shattered life. There, on the battlefields of Afghanistan where he hoped to find "some violent blow, inarticulate noise or mad mime-show of truth," Adam will find what he least expected: a chance for love and redemption.

Set in a world where politics are as incendiary as artillery, We Are Now Beginning Our Descent is a truly moving story, cinematic in its scope. Like The People's Act of Love, We Are Now Beginning Our Descent will challenge and engulf readers until the very last page.
