First Look FAQ: Read and Review Tomorrow’s Books Today, Harpercollins Publishers

What do I have to do to become a member?

The registration process is easy. All that is required is your name, e-mail address, mailing or shipping address, and types of books that you read.

Why do I have to become a member?

Well, it makes it easier for us for one thing. When you are selected to review a book, we have your shipping address on file and we can get the book to you promptly.

Also, when you register for First Look, you tell us about your reading preferences and we can notify you via e-mail when there is an offering in your preferred category. If you're interested in reviewing the book, you can enter the drawing on the Web site, and we'll let you know if you've been chosen to review it.

May I select more than one book per month?

Yes.

What happens to the reviews I submit?

The reviews you send us will be shared with our editors and may be posted to the site. We reserve the right to edit your review for clarity, accuracy, and space limitations, but will not publish phrases out of context.

How long should the review be?

There is no length requirement, but because we want to fit as many reviews as possible, your review may be edited to 20 words or so. We do encourage reviewers to spread the word, however. You may post your reviews and comments in their entirety to online book sites that accept them, or any Web sites you favor.

Can I post my review elsewhere?

Yes, please do! And let us know where you've posted your review - send a note to firstlookcanada@harpercollins.com.

How do I submit my review?

When you are selected as a reviewer, the next time you log in to First Look with your e-mail address and password, the page will refresh with "your book to review" listed above "This Month's Books on Offer." Click on the link and the page where you place your review will display.

Is there a fee for participating in the First Look program?

No.

Can I sign up for more than one book each month?

Yes.

Why is this program open only to residents of the Canada?

This is to protect the publishing rights of our authors.

Can I keep the book after I read and review it?

Yes, you may.
